About IISS
Institute for Intelligence and Strategic Security
The role of intelligence in war and peacetime is of vital importance to national and international security. As a discipline that covers law enforcement, defence, diplomacy and technology involving practices, policies and institutions, national and international bodies have adopted and/or established, as useful and necessary tools in the fight against terrorism, violent extremism, organized crime, transnational and cross-border crimes and other threats to national security.
Besides the relevant state security and intelligence services, a range of organizations have been established for collection, analysis, and operationalization of intelligence with the view to combating national security threats.

Program Areas
To better understand the phenomenon and process in the field of intelligence and national security, it is necessary to collect new knowledge in this field, to constantly carry out the evaluation process and to harmonize theory and practice to acquire theoretical knowledge and skills in practical application. To reach this goal, IISS will develop and implement relevant projects to advance its objectives, outlined above, through a structured plan of action.
This plan is structured along the following interlinked parameters.

Research and Analysis
IISS regularly conducts research on intelligence and national security affairs, as they apply to local, regional, and international; it publicizes its efforts online, and through community events and outreach. Findings and recommendations from these research projects enable national governments and security sector actors to implement measures aimed at addressing identified security issues.

Training and Development
Building capacity of security sector players is critical to IISS’ mandate. The Institute shall continue to pursue needs-based training and capacity building of implementing agencies and personnel through comprehensive training programmes to raise the preparedness of security sector actors, communities, and citizens to tackle emerging national security challenges.

Public Education and Advocacy
The Institute organizes seminars, workshops and lectures facilitated by local and internnational experts, which are designed to advance society’s understanding of the nature of intelligence and the changing security landscape in the 21st century.
