The Institute for Intelligence and Strategic Security (IISS) is non-profit non-governmental organization specialized in National Security Intelligence and Risk Management. IISS’ is the first-ever non-government organization to be established with a special focus on issues of intelligence and national security. The Institute’s program areas are Research, Analysis, Training, Security Advisory and Consultancy. The IISS provides security intelligence training to personnel of security and intelligence agencies such as police, military, immigration etc and private organizations and international organizations.

IISS is a member of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) and a leading Civil Society Organization in National Security Intelligence affairs. The Institute has over the past 3 years focused attention on advising national and international organizations on national security vulnerabilities and risks.

In 2021, IISS together with ISDES conducted a first-ever national security risk assessment on the State of Security or Insecurity in Ghana. Findings of the assessment was presented to the Ministry of National Security, Ghana, Ministry of Interior, Economic and Organized Crime Office and other key stakeholders. The Institute also recently concluded violent extremism security risk assessment of northern Ghana border regions for a reputable international organization.

The Field Office, located in Tamale and headed by the Chief of Field Office is responsible for project activities in northern Ghana, including but not limited to Prevention of Violent Extremism and Armed Conflict, Border Security Risk Assessments and Capacity building of stakeholders in peace, security, and armed conflict prevention.

IISS through its Field Office is commencing the implementation of a 3-year project on “Prevention of Violent Extremism and Border Security Risk Assessment”.

The project involves assessing vulnerabilities and risk of Sahel Violent Extremism Spill-Over and its effects on local population and communities and its implications on national security. Capacity building of local community stakeholders, local authorities and government representatives is a major component of the project being undertaken by the Field Office.

The IISS, as part of its staff requirement, is therefore recruiting a competent Project Administrator and 2 Interns for its Field Office.

Job Description


a. This is a career development opportunity for recent graduates or students with interest in national security management, peacebuilding or conflict management.

b. Interns shall under the technical direction and guidance of an assigned Officer, support in carrying out tasks, including research, reviewing of documents, writing reports etc.

Intelligence Analysis

  • Must be interested in developing a career in security intelligence and intelligence analysis.
  • Must be a graduate or student pursuing studies in peace, security, conflict management, international relations, law, political science or related area.
  • Must be a person of high moral character and integrity and have passion for security and national development.


  • Under the direction of an assigned Senior Analyst, gather security-related information using the full complement of Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) tools and other OSINT methodology such as Social Media Intelligence (SOCMINT).
  • Monitoring of security developments and happenings, and collecting relevant security information as directed by Superior.
  • Verify, authenticate and validate security related information and prepare reports (Situation Reports, Incident Reports etc) as directed by Superior.
  • Perform other tasks related to the position as assigned by Superior.
